Free Lacrosse Clinics - Aug 22 and 29!
by posted 07/30/2019

"Foundations Lacrosse Academy" will be hosting 2 free lacrosse opportunities for the Clarksburg area youth!

Dates: Thursday August 22nd and Thursday August 29th Time: 6-7:30pm Who: Rising K-5th grade Boys AND Girls
Cost: Free Where: Ovid Hazen Wells Recreational Park, 12001 Skylark Rd, Clarksburg, MD 20871
Coaches: Rob Hokanson (Formerly DHS Head Coach), Gavin Donahue (Urbana Head Coach), and Ron Milor (Urbana Rec Coach)

Notes: This is an opportunity for young boys and girls to come out and experience lacrosse in a non-pressure, fun atmosphere. Coaches Rob Hokanson and Gavin Donahue will lead instruction with "tips and tricks" of some fundamental skills and will end the event with some fun games and activities. We not only are inviting parents to participate in this event, but it is actually encouraged (especially with our youngest kids). This could be a mom, dad, big sister or brother, or any family or friend who would like to join them! This serves a few purposes.... 1) If a younger child is nervous about coming to a new activity, then this can provide a level of comfort. 2) This is a chance for the adult to hear and learn from the coaches too, so when they go home they know what cues to echo to their child. 3) This provides a fun opportunity for a parent (or family/friend) to play with their child in a different environment.

Kids will begin as a large group and after the opening few activities, kids will be broken up into groups that reflect their experience/abilities. We will have some mini goals on site and our more advanced players will get more time playing in small sided games such as 3v3 or 4v4. This event is created to serve the Damascus and Clarksburg area youth, but anyone and everyone is invited! Please pass along the message to anyone you thing would enjoy the event! Agenda: 6-6:15 Meet and greet 6:15-7:15 Games and activities 7:15-7:30 Clean up and closure

FAQ: 1-Can my kid come even if an adult (or family/friend) is not accompanying them for the event? ABSOLUTELY! 2-What if a mom AND dad want to participate (or any two people)? Could we have two people come? YES! This is a very family friendly activity. That is one of our goals for the event. 3- Do you provide sticks? Unfortunately no. Each child will need a stick. If you do not have one I would suggest looking online or going to "Play it Again Sports" to find discounted used equipment. For new equipment, any sports store will have it. 4- Should I bring protective equipment? Nothing more than a stick is needed, but if your child has pads and cleats, then sure! Bring them! The kids will not need full pads, but the more advance group may decide they want to use helmets and gloves. 5- What type of ball are we using? All kids will be using tennis balls to promote soft hands and to keep the atmosphere safe for all kids. Fun Tip: Are you discouraged from playing lacrosse with your kid because you cannot use a lacrosse stick? Did you know that you could just as easily play with them using a baseball glove?
